The above mentioned values represent the theoretically maximum possible values for a GPRS device. For an EDGE

Inpractice,thefollowingapplies:
GPRSwillnotprovideguaranteeddataratesorbandwidthsfortheapplication.Thevaluesallocatedbythenetwork
provider(codingschemeandtimeslots tobeused)canchangedynamicallyduringaconnectionanddepend,among
otherthings,onthecurrentamountofconnectionsintheGSMcell.
4.2.3 Delay
Usually,therewillbemarginallyhigherdelaysthanwitha"normal"connectionviaGPRS.
The delayswill mostly be below one second. The average delay times are stated with 700 ms. Basically, delays of
several seconds are possible; the applications at the GPRS enddevicesshould therefore be set to maximumdelay
times,ifpossible.
4.3 TypicalApplications
4.3.1 TCPClientMode
In TCP Client mode, the M1000 Pro can actively establisha TCP connection to apre‐defined host computer when
serialdata arrives.After thedatahas beentransferred,the M1000Procanautomaticallydisconnectfromthehost
computerbyusingtheInactivitytimesettings.
Asillustratedinthefigurebelow,datatransmissionproceedsasfo llows:
(1)TheM1000Pro,configuredforTCPClientmode,requests aconnectiontothehost.
(2)Oncetheconnectionisestablished,datacanbetransmittedinbothdirections betweenthehostandtheM1000
Probidirectional.
